A Cove dishwasher drain hose runs from the drain pump at the back of the tub, through the cabinet wall, up to an air gap or a high loop under the counter, and down to the disposal or sink tailpiece. Cove's DW2451 guide says that line must be clear, unkinked and no more than 4' (1.2 m) above the dishwasher floor, or the machine can stop with drain code 800115.
An owner can safely inspect the sink-base end of the Cove hose; the pump end, hidden behind a built-in, panel-ready unit, belongs to a technician.
What does a correct Cove drain hose route look like?
A properly installed Cove drain line leaves the pump at the rear of the dishwasher, passes through the shared cabinet side, and climbs before dropping toward the drain, so dirty sink water cannot siphon back into a clean Cove tub.
The Cove high point is either an air gap, a small capped fitting on the sink deck with a wider hose leading to the disposal, or a high loop, where the hose is fastened as high as it will reach under the countertop.
Cove's DW2451 instructions cap that rise at 4' (1.2 m) above the dishwasher floor. A Cove hose lifted higher makes the drain pump push water farther than intended, and the cycle can end in slow draining or a drain code.
What Cove error codes point back to the drain hose?
Cove drain codes read differently by model, so match the exact wording on the display.
On a Cove DW2451, "Error 800115. Check manual." points to draining. Confirm the drain line and air gap are clear, the disposal knockout is out, the hose is not kinked or raised above 4' (1.2 m), and the filter is clean. Book service if it returns.
On the earlier Cove DW2450 and DW2450WS, "Check manual, Code #800140" flags a drain problem. Run the same sink-base checks and clean the filter before calling a technician.
On a Cove DW2450, error 80 01 40 (MOT4) means the drain pump ran too long or a pressure check could not confirm draining. Clean the filter and the interior, switch the breaker off for 30 seconds and retest.
Cove error 80 01 86 (MOT4) means insufficient or poor draining. Reset the breaker for 30 seconds; if the code persists, a technician is needed.
Cove error 05 01 40, a wash pump overcurrent at steady speed, starts with the same drain check: clear debris, straighten kinks, then reset the breaker for 30 seconds.
Cove "Call Service" codes 600148, 600149 and 600151 are not hose problems and go straight to a technician.
How do you check a Cove drain hose from under the sink?
Switch the Cove off at the breaker and lay a towel under the trap first.
Step 1: Empty the sink base and trace the Cove hose with a flashlight. Stored bottles or a trash bin can flatten it.
Step 2: Look for a kink near the cabinet hole, where the Cove line often folds when the dishwasher is slid back into its opening.
Step 3: Confirm the high loop is still fastened under the counter, or lift the air gap cap and clear any food buildup. Water spitting from an air gap during a Cove drain means the hose to the disposal is blocked.
Step 4: Inspect the disposal end. A recently replaced disposal may still hold its knockout plug, which stops a Cove from draining at all. Loosen the clamp and check the inlet and hose end for packed food or grease.
Step 5: Reconnect, restore power and run a short cycle, watching each Cove connection for drips.
Why does sink water back up into a Cove dishwasher?
Sink water in a Cove tub is usually a routing problem, not a failed part. Without a high loop or air gap, water from a full sink or a running disposal can flow down the Cove hose and into the dishwasher, carrying odor and food with it. A packed disposal inlet does the same from the other direction, so run the disposal briefly before a Cove cycle.
Remodeled kitchens in Gerstle Park, Marin's largest Victorian and Queen Anne district, can fit a panel-ready Cove into an older sink base with little room for a proper loop, so check whether cabinet work pushed the hose down. Soft Marin water makes mineral scale an unlikely clog inside a Cove hose; food and grease at the disposal are likelier.
When is a Cove drain hose problem a technician job?
A Cove drain hose that is cracked or leaking at the pump end needs a technician, because reaching that connection means sliding a built-in unit, often with a custom panel, out of its opening and then resetting it level and secured. Water at the toe kick is a reason to stop running the dishwasher until it is checked.
The same applies when every sink-base check comes back clean and a Cove drain code still returns; the drain pump or the pressure sensing that confirms draining may be at fault. Before the visit, note the exact code text and the model (DW2450, DW2450WS, DW2451 or DW2451WS), and photograph the hose route under the sink.
Keeping the Cove drain path clear between visits
Routine Cove care protects the drain hose better than any replacement part. Cove shows a "Clean filter" reminder every 30 cycles, based on count rather than soil level. To remove the Cove filter, take out the lower rack and lower spray arm, press down lightly, turn it counterclockwise 1/8 turn and lift.
Cove's DW2451 guide also calls for cleaning the interior about every three months and the spray arms every six months. Cove rates powder detergent, which combines enzymes and bleach, as giving the best results, and warns that all-in-one pods may supply too much detergent for the Light, Quick and China/Crystal cycles; excess suds drain poorly through a Cove hose.
